February 12, 1916

Next Friday, February 18, is the anniversary of the date Marquis LaSalle landed on the Texas coast some six miles from the mouth of the Lavaca River, originally a portion of Victoria County, but now within the confines of Jackson County. LaSalle Day, as the date is known, will be observed in most elaborate style here, participating in which will be all the children of the Victoria schools. The Daughters of the Republic of Texas are instrumental in the observance and the celebration will take place on Memorial Square.
